What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire and Humber?

Yorkshire and the Humber have always been known for their quality of life. With more and more people wanting to move here, this certainly increases the prospects of property in the region. Plus, with more people working from home now, there is definitely an opportunity for people to want to make that lifestyle change by moving to Yorkshire.

 

What is the best project you have been involved in?

One of my favourite projects I’ve worked on so far was at Edward Architecture; a housing development for RA3 Ltd in Birkenshaw.

The applicant was committed to a sustainable and biodiversity friendly scheme. Part of this was to use modern methods of construction, hence a lightweight steel frame was used. This sustainable and modern approach is reflected in the Shingle Tile Cladding materials. The development has a contemporary outlook and is definitely the way forward to housing design in the UK.

 

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

Waterman’s Place in Leeds. This canal side building is responsive to its local character. The carefully chosen mix of materials makes it stand out yet fit into the cityscape so beautifully. In an odd way it feels like Architectural Lego!

 

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

I would change the lengthy planning application process. Even though this is a national process; imagine if Yorkshire could offer a quicker and cheaper planning approval turn around, this may entice a lot of investors to invest in this region to save themselves that additional time and cost. 

 

Who has inspired you?

The smile of satisfaction on a client’s face when you help them achieve their dream is the biggest inspiration for me. It inspires me to bring more to their plate and help make their reality better than their dream.
